The Labour Advisory Committee issues a statement reading that after the in-depth discussion during the 8 July meeting, it was agreed as follows:
1. The $6 COLA agreed in 2008 shall be converted into the basic wages of all workers in the textile, garment and shoe industries.
2. The minimum wage of probationary workers (1-3 months) shall be $56 per month ($45 current minimum wage + $5 new increment + $6 COLA). The minimum wage of confirmed workers shall be $61 ($50 current minimum wage + $5 new increment + $6 COLA).
3. The wage of piece rate workers shall be paid based on the actual output produced and if the output produced exceed the minimum wage stipulated in point 2 above, their wage shall be paid as per the exceeded output accordingly. However, if the output produced is below the minimum wage, the employer shall supplement the piece rate workers’ wage to $56 per month for probationary workers and $61 per month for confirmed workers.
4. Benefits that workers used to obtain as per point 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Notification no. 017 skby, dated 18 July 2000 shall be maintained.
This new implementation will be effective as of 1 October 2010 until 2014.
